Elle Fanning for Rodarte - The Curve of Forgotten Things

fashion muses are getting younger and younger these days. it seems that the Mulleavy sisters have a trait of finding their muse in girls who have just come out of their tween years. after they cited the then 13-yr old pint-sized Tavi Gevinson as the girl who defines Rodarte for Target collection last year, their recent young love is the "Somewhere" breakout star Elle Fanning who certainly has a mesmeric appeal beyond her tender 12 years of age.

The Curve of Forgotten Things - a short film inspired by Rodarte's spring 2011 collection debuted yesterday at

I have taken a liking to the collection since their debut at the last NYFW. the Rodarte designs always managed to draw inspirations from their background or personal experience which makes the outcome an individualistic charm, departing from the larger ongoing trends. the spring 2011 collection is about the landscape of Northern California, the Redwood forrest in 1970s, when & where the sisters grew up. unearthing history from the wilderness; there are reminiscences of the Chinese mining life during the gold rush. as director-photographer Todd Cole explains about the concept of the short film, "She's digging up things from the land and the past, and she offers them to the sun."

the collaboration between Rodarte and Todd Cole goes back to their first fashion short film Aanteni, starring Guinevere van Seenus last year which brought about much awareness to the already prolific photographer. the haute-tech short film was voted one of the ten best fashion films of 2010 by W magazine and one of the top three fashion films of 2010 by The Business of Fashion (BoF). the subject matter of a space odyssey depicted in Aanteni is much darker and complex than The Curve of Forgotten Things, and yet to me, the former has pushed the style envelope to a literal stratospheric level.

I particularly enjoy and admire how things are captured in the following projects by Cole. his talent lies not only in portraits but landscape as well.

Painted Desert. URA

Lake Los Angeles. Pairs-LA

Elle Fanning. Dossier - here once again I'm convinced little Elle could be the next big thing in hollywood.

Rodarte. Paris-LA

continue on the Rodarte fever, it seems the label has ramped up on interesting collaborations with different parties lately. after the brief stint in costume design for the movie Black Swan, they have teamed up with the uber cool retailer Opening Ceremony for a Rodarte x Opening Ceremony spring collection. the womens collection is tugging the heartstrings of many girls. for guys, they would have their fashion fix again with the full mens collection since last capsule collection on sweaters and tees from last year. the designs are equally whimsical and romantic as the main label from the runway but they are more for offbeat daily wear, even better! another chance for Rodarte fans to snatch up the fine designs at a lower price range. the collection retails from $250 for a top to $2,200 for a leather jacket. what's more exciting is the collection comes with accessories of sunglasses, shoes, tights, bags and hats. click to shop now!
