Singapore shopping fun - the highstreet heaven

shopping in Singapore to me was often related to Orchard Road for the mega malls filled with similar / the same international retail franchises, and it's pretty much a no-brainer if you hit all the stores of the first few shopping centers from the beginning of the strip, it will save you the rest of the walking towards the end. cuz it's the same stores all over again by a block away. but I was mistaken thinking it's just repeated selections; walking through the latest shopping centers on the strip with the fanfare coming thr' the giant screens and blasting music is simply an experience not to miss. 313@somerset, ION Orchard, Knightsbridge (for Topshop fans, it's the spacious two-level flagship is located), Mandarin Gallery and Wisma Atria are either new names to have joined in the Orchard scene in last few years or have undergone major makeover to up the shopping excitement.

hitting Orchard again this time on my first day there, I checked out the usual highstreet suspects - Topshop, New Look, Forever 21, Banana Republic, River Island... but along the way, there were a bunch of new names popping up I didn't recognize. these brands have been arriving or originating in Sing in the last 2 - 3 years and have becoming the favorite of the locals.

BYSI - one of the most successful local retail chain in Sing with 14 outlets across the island. it offers trendy designs and styles fresh off the runway at super accessible price (i.e. average at SGD40 - 50 a piece). btw, they are upgrading their online shop currently. for those who would want to shop online, keep checking back at their website.

Stradivarius - the Spanish highstreet label landed at Sing in Apr 2010 with 2 outlets so far. designs are more youthful and casual with on trend pieces and wide selection. price is low low low.

Pedro - the label started first in men's footwear in 2006 in Sing and over the last few years, it has expanded into most of the nearby southeastern countries and into the middle east as well. the first women's footwear collection launched in 2009 and followed by launch of women's accessories this year, it is a complete footwear, handbag, accessories brand with style similar to Aldo or Nine West.

Charles & Keith - another footwear accessories label founded by two Chinese brothers in Sing and over the years the small label has now grown into a big franchise with 201 stores in 28 countries. think of them as Office shoes from Sing also enabled with online shopping and international delivery.

MIMCO - the Australian accessories brand came to the Singaporean shore last year in may and has its store opened at ION Orchard. I like their hair accessories and jewelry the best. items start from SGD150.

Witchery - speaking of Australian influence, Witchery is another Australian fashion brand that launched in Sing last year. the brand is known more for its minimalist, monochrome-colored clothing from Down Under. for the standalone accessory store inside Wisma Atria, bags and shoes are the main sales, with a small selection of intimates and simple tops available. one can totally call out which styles the IT bags  Witchery is getting the inspiration from for their own versions - Celine, Chloe, Jimmy Choo, PS1...

tired from the shopping hike up and down the malls? take a small rest and have some snack or local milk tea from the amazing food halls, love the food!
